Hi everyone. So... it reaches a point where I'm fed up with the whole crashing thing, so I came here to check if someone could give me some hints.
I have a relatively powerful machine, a little less than 2 years old. Please, do excuse me if any of the information I provide is wrong or incomplete; I'm fairly noobish when it comes to technical issues and I'm mostly reading from the box.
The graphic card is a gigabyte HD7770 GDDR5. 1GB.
The processor is an AMD FX-6100, 3.3 GHz.
I have 8 GB of RAM.
So here's the thing. I started playing the game last April on a Windows XP, but the continuous crashing fed me up and I left. I switched to Windows 7 and so I decided to come back... just to find continous crashing.
I'll try to use
this post as much as I can, but I mostly can't because it generally doesn't apply.
So far I've had no BSOD.
I've had one Spontaneous Reboot, I think. Basically the image froze, but the sound kept playing. Then the sound... hm... I don't know how to say it? Like when a CD is scratched? It started making a "rrrrrrrrrrrr" sound. And then the computer rebooted.
As for CTD... I've had none, technically. I've had 4 or 5 crashes where I'm sent back to desktop; HOWEVER, the game itself doesn't close down, it's still running in the bacground (or at least the sound is). I'm in the desktop, with the in-game mouse pointer, the game opened in the bar, the music running... and I can't do anything. Anything other than ctrl+alt+supr to force-close the game.
7 or 8 other crashes I've experienced are basically the image freezing with the sound playing, then the sound stopping... and then nothing. 5 minutes later it's still like that. Ctrl+alt+supr won't work, so I'm forced to force-reboot the computer.
Appart from that, I've had about 15 "sets" of freezing of the game. The image freezes for about 10 seconds, then the screen goes black for about 2 seconds, and then the image goes back and the game is working. Then the process starts again. That happens 3 or 4 times in a row, then the game works normally until the next "set" of freezings.
None of these crashes have given me the choice of sending a report to microsoft. I can't comment on the crashes I had last year on XP because I don't remember.
Oh. Maybe I should mention that all the crashes I just mentioned have happened in less than 24 hours? I came back to the game yesterday at 20h (Spain), and I'm posting this about 16h (Spain time).
I've tried horsing with the graphics around. Most people tell me that with the computer I have, any game published before 2013 should be running smoothly on High or even Very High; the first crashes happened on the default settings, I don't remember if those are High or Medium. I then tried playing with everything on Medium: crashes. I put everything on Low: crashes. I put everything on Very Low (everything I could, some stuff has a minimum of Low) and Disabled what I could, like the shadows: crashes. I thought it's fairly horrific that with a 2012 computer I had to run a 2007 game on Very Low graphics, but I tried anyway.
What else... oh, yeah. When I first launched the game it told me it was able to run in HD, but I declined (remembering the crashes on XP) and decided to try on normal first. The pop-up never showed up again, so I guess I'm running in normal. Also, the first 5 or 6 times it told me my computer was able of running the game in DirectX11, so I said yes two times: both crashed in the character selection screen, less than 5 seconds starting from the moment I could actually move the mouse. So all the crashes I'm reporting are on DirectX9.
For even further information, the crashes seem to happen randomly (ALL of them). I think I haven't had any crash entering or exiting dungeons, but other than that... crashes when entering or leaving a city, crashes while fighting a lonely wolf, crashes when approaching a place with LOTS of NPC and people, crashes when standing completely alone, not even mobs, looking at the sky without doing ANYTHING...
So... I think that's about it.
I read
this and I think post #8 MIGHT apply, but I'm not sure. I mean, my card DOES say ATI, but as far as I know, my drivers are updated, so...
And I've had crashes on DirectX9, but I've had even worse crashes on DirectX11, so...
I'm not sure.
So... yeah. I think that's it.
I'd really really love to participate in the anniversary, so any solution before Tuesday would be EXTREMELY appreciated. Any solution after Tuesday would be just super appreciated XD
So yeah, I'll keep around. Thanks in advance.
