Hello!
I'm having trouble starting the game on w8. Error says so "Could not enumerate directinput devices. Please ensure that DirectX 9.0c [Dec 2005] or higher is installed". Every time i start the game and im on the loading screen that leads to my characters etc i get this error and the game automatically closes. I've reinstalled the game, updated and rolled back my drivers etcetc. Looked for Directx9 for w8 but i cant seem to find it. Aswell i was fine playing lotro yesterday. This error started randomly without any changes on my PC.

Game minimizing

Here are the symptoms.

(1) I log into the game. I play for about 10 to 15 minutes and the game shuts down. There is no warning. One second I am walking through Bree. The next I am at the desktop with the LOTRO client closed.

(2) I log back in, and the problem does not repeat - unless I exit the game properly. If I exit the game properly, on the next login, it will close without warning in 10 to 15 minutes.

(3) Frequently, while playing the game, I get tabbed out to the desktop. LOTRO is open, but minimized. I can alt-tab back into the game (though it is quite disturbing when it happens in combat.) sometimes I can play for 15 minutes. Sometimes I am being sent to my desktop every few seconds. (In the latter case, it is impossible to play.)

(4) I close everything on my desktop. In this case, instead of going back to my desktop, the game locks up. I can do nothing. Alt-tab does clear the problem up for a few minutes (or seconds).

Any hints?

Note:I have deleted and reinstalled the game to no benefit.

Disconnecting in-game a lot - "Client timed out the connection"

OK, after a couple of years of not playing, I got back into LOTRO last fall. I've been playing on the Brandywine server. When the Yule Festival started, I did a bunch of events and quests and stuff and then had to break for several days due to being extremely busy. Up until that point I had no problems at all except for the occasional laggy moments (which, face it, everyone has those). Upon my return during the last few days of Yule, I started having moments where my character would suddenly stop moving anywhere. I could look around, and everyone else was moving like normal in my vicinity, but I couldn't walk an inch. I'd have to close the program and restart to get back in. However, upon attempting to log back in, the game would make 20 attempts at searching for a log-on server and then have a screen pop up saying "Connection failed: Client timed out the connection."

It was at its worst today. I disconnected several times while playing with friends, and then a little while ago I had about a two hour stretch where I only could get a total 15 minutes of playtime.

Any idea what the problem is?

By the way, I'm an American, but I'm currently in China, in Henan Province. I know that China does not block the game because I'm still able to update when I log in even when I can't get into the game itself. I've been using the same internet connection I've been using the last few months.

Figured that information would come in handy for anyone figuring out my problem. Thanks ahead of time!

Error 404

Hey All.

So I needed to reinstall lotro because I had it installed on Steam and various problems arose; I couldn't restart game when it closed without restarting computer, steam is slow on my comp and kept coming up during gameplay, and I would ideally like to pay for TPs via SMS as I get paid in cash and bank is a long drive away for £5 of TPs.

Basically I 1st tried installing the Happy Cloud version on lotro site WHILE the steam version was active, so I could still play while reinstalling. Happy Cloud version didn't work, it kept saying it needed latest version of HC and when I downloaded the recommended one it repeated massage. In the end I uninstalled that and at the same time my steam version, just in case when I uninstalled Steam it may effect new version of game.

I then went onto lotro site and clicked the full installation version at about 7 PM last night. 3 PM today it looked like it had finally finished until the launcher froze after the DAT files. It's loaded Overall to 88% and got up to Iterations which says 'done', but won't show me the next section before coming up with Retry (failed).

Done applying 0 patch(s). 16 bytes downloaded.

HTTP 404 - Not Found.

I've looked on firewall, that's allowed lotro. I've disabled firewall entirely and tried launcher, makes no difference. I tried what Turbine Support recommended, unallowing lotro and restarting comp then allowing it and launching, made no difference. I've restarted launcher countless times, I can't see why this is happening I havn't even touched the downloaded files.

Any help, plz? I wanted to get download done by today for the 30% sale in lotro store, but may need to install in Steam again, :(. Thanks for replies.

I am able to log into the client, but upon starting the game, the error message "201" appears; "Can't open the data files, check that they exist and that you have permission to write to them. The program will now exit." I have done everything the support website has told me to do..is anyone else experiencing this error? usually it is one that happens on the main launcher, but I can play just fine on regular servers. This only occurs for Bullroarer. (Which has worked every other build?)

Hello,

When i download lotrolive.exe my anti-virus Avira free give me an alert :

Quote:

Le fichier 'C:\Users\*********\Downloads\ lotrolive.exe.part'contenait un virus ou un programme indésirable 'ADWARE/InstallCore.Gen7' [adware].
Action(s) exécutée(s) :
Le fichier a été déplacé dans le répertoire de quarantaine sous le nom '********.qua'!
I put my file on virustotal.com and nothing.

False Positive ? But it seem like more an adware than a virus. I don't think that it is normal.

Thx for aswers.

Client Crashing in Higher Level Areas while on "Highest" Graphics Setting

$

So, my issue is that when I am using my Endgame toons, I am unable to play with the graphics turned to "Highest". This seems to happen when I am entering/exiting an interior location (ie. vault, home, etc.). Last fall I updated my graphics card to an Invidia. I am at work so I don't have any specs on that card or my PC (though I know I am running XP) off the top of my head. I will update when I get home tonight.

The interesting thing is that while leveling a Beorning, I tested the graphics settings and I have played from lvl 30-ish to now lvl 64 without a single crash on "highest". Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the areas levels below 65 and endgame that would cause a consistent crash?

Any solution for getting stuck at 33%?

I have tried to download via steam and the installed from website. I still get stuck on 33% on patch server, and no one has gotten an answer how to fix it.

Action buttons hanging on entering combat situations and interacting with quest givers

Hi
Does anyone else have problems with there action buttons hanging when entering combat? it only happens in certain areas i.e chetwood at dogwood farm or in scary in the spider cave. This also happens when picking up and handing in quests. Any other time the game runs fine...I'm confused. I have checked with my internet provider and have no issues there. There is also nothing else running in the background to hinder the game..
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is ruining my enjoyment of this game.

Launcher crashes applying iterations

I downloaded the game via the Happy Cloud. I chose to download the high resolution package. The launcher starts applying 6929 iterations. It get to 21% and then it crashes.

I've unchecked the box to use high resolution game data in the options and it still crashes.

Edit: I've since uninstalled everything and I am now downloading the standard resolution and seems to be working fine.

When I select 'Play' to enter the world, Launcher closes but game does not run

I had a crash last night completing an old 'grey' quest in Angmar. Attempting to log back into the game, The launcher loads and moves on to 'play' but when I select it, the laucher closes as normal but the client does not run.

I have a fresh install of Win7 Pro Sp1
I have the full package of DirectX9c
I have the full package of .Net1.1sp1

I am not seeing any errors, just simply does not run. There is no event log that I have find. All graphics and sound have WHQL drivers. I've had crashes since 15.0 or 15.1 but has been working for months. I'm not sure if there is a way to check the game files as like a 'full scan' to verify. The only repair I see are graphics. I tried that of course since they are easily returned back to settings I use. I'm a bit perplexed for I have never seen the client attempt to load but doesn't actually run. The exe's are loaded into windows firewall but I even tried to turn that off completely. I cannot find any game logs within the LOTRO folders to check.

I hope someone might have an suggestion and thanks!

LOTRO Keeps getting larger?

So I downloaded LOTRO for the first time in a long time using steam 9gb. I finish the download (Tries to install C++), it says ready to play, but I keep getting the "Launcher never launches the game" bug, so I deleted the userpreferences file as suggested by a thousand people having the same issue.

Now when I tried to load LOTRO again, it says ready to play (After trying to install C++ again)... nope its not, it had to download another 8gb.

Finished that download last night, so I click play (in steam). Nothing happens. I go to the steam directory and open "TurbineLauncher" as admin and what do I get?!
ANOTHER prompt for MORE files. As well as C++ again... (3 times now)

Its already asked me if I want to install the Hi-Res textures the first time, but nope, I guess it didnt listen. Downloading them again.
Its already downloaded 8-10gb 3 times now and its still asking for more...

Im just wondering... How much space does this game take up after all these updates and texture packs?
Im currently sitting at 26gb and downloading more as I type.
C++ is trying to install EVERY time I launch the game.
Updates are installing EVERY time I launch the game.

Is this normal?!

Updating Files Keeps Stopping

A few days ago, I tried to play LOTRO. When the launcher opened, it began to update files as it normaly does. I hadn't played LOTRO in a while so I was prepared to wait a bit for all of the old files to be updated and whatever new files there were to be downloaded. A few hours later, the updater was stuck on the lotro.exe file at 25%. After repeatedly closing the launcher and reopening it, it finally started to proceed with the update, but stopped again at 48%. I tried the previous tactic to no avail. Even after adding the lotro applications to my exceptions list on my antivirus system, it still did not move. Yesterday I tried again and it finally completed updating lotro.exe(after stopping at 73% for a good three hours), and started on the raw/en/chargen/class_videos/class_beorning.bik file (when I opened the class videos folder, class beorning wasn't there), but got stuck at 17%. After repeatedly closing the launcher and reopening it again, the progress bar moved to 24% and stayed there. No matter what I do, it won't go past that percentage. I even left my computer on overnight to see if it just needed a lot of time, but this morning it was still at 24%. If I repeatedly close and open the launcher, it fluxuates between 23%, 24%, and 25%, but does not progress any more than that. I read somewhere that if the updater is stuck, it may be because of my connection and that I should check a router, but I am using an ethernet cable to connect to the internet. Running the application as an administrator does not change anything either. This is very frustrating and I hope that someone can help me! If you need additional information just let me know.
Update: I uninstalled and then reinstalled LOTRO but it is still stuck on the same file at 24%.
Also, the last time I DID play, the videos were really choppy. Do I need to adjust my settings when I get into the actual game?

Windows 8.1 Pro x64, patchclient.dll crashes

$

I don't know if that has been addressed, or even reported, but since Update 15, lotro crashes constantly on windows 8.1 pro x64, regardless of graphics settings (e.g. dx9/dx10/dx11) proxy settings, compatibility mode, etc.

Originally I thought this was an issue with a corrupt windows installation, so I did a format and clean re-install a few weeks ago, but the crashes persist. So next I thought it was a corrupt client installation, so yesterday I trashed my lotro installation and re-installed, but the game still crashes. After looking through windows event viewer, it seems that patchclient.dll is being flagged as the cause.

Below (for an example) is the most recent crash log, and the only things that ever change are the unique process id (this changes every time you launch an application) the timestamp and unique report id.

Code:

Faulting application name: TurbineLauncher.exe, version: 1501.56.727.4045, time stamp: 0x54ab8349
Faulting module name: patchclient.DLL, version: 3.0.2.0, time stamp: 0x52f3d636
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0002e779
Faulting process id: 0x33c
Faulting application start time: 0x01d03b44d800f919
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Turbine\The Lord of the Rings Online\TurbineLauncher.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Turbine\The Lord of the Rings Online\patchclient.DLL
Report Id: 1e635de6-a738-11e4-827c-240a64392966
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:

And before it's suggested that this is a memory/RAM issue, I've let memtest run, multiple times, for nearly a full 24 hours, and it passes every test with zero errors. I've tried countless different graphics settings, different GPU drivers, etc. and nothing fixes this.
